Sunday, March 21 is the official One Great Day of Service for RUMC. Due to the church finances the past couple of years an emphasis has been placed on taking care of certain housekeeping items around the church on this special day. Since God asks us to be good stewards of the blessings with which He has endowed us, we have come to the conclusion that it is essential to spend some effort maintaining and painting the choir room.
Unfortunately, the choir room has been neglected mostly due to its massive size and the requirement for a large crew to do the painting project. The hard truth is that the church can not afford to hire a painting crew to do the work and is dependent on volunteers to complete this task. With only one part-time painter on staff, this job is just too big to handle without volunteers.
If you canʼt paint, that is o.k. because a majority of the work actually has to be done prior to the painting. Most of the time will be spent doing prep work which will include removing pictures from the walls, laying down drop cloths, and taping off the ceilings, woodwork, etc. We will need lots of volunteers to make this happen in the time allotted. We welcome all choir members, spouses, and family members. There is a job for everyone!
We will start by moving chairs after rehearsal on Wednesday night. Then Thursday and Friday during the day will be prep days. So we will need help at various times starting from Wednesday, March 17 to Sunday, March 21. Please consider giving some of your time (even if only 1 hour) toward this important service opportunity.
For those of us who will miss our normal service opportunity of nursing home singing please note that we are trying to plan a singing service project for later in the spring. Although the choir room refurbishment may not seem as glamorous as our nursing home outreach please realize that it is just as essential and a much needed service to the church.
Jack Stewart has graciously offered to coordinate this massive effort. Please contact him with your availability and skill set. We will also be asking to borrow certain items or for donations of needed supplies (brushes, painterʼs tape, etc.). If you have any relevant supplies please inform Jack of these as well.
